AN ANTIDOTE TO ARROGANCE

Having witnessed this multidimensional outburst of violence occurring in our (mistakenly believed  to be everlastingly tranquil) Greece, our souls can not wait in silence any longer. If life, day after day, makes us perceive any form of  raw violence as an unavoidable outcome of modern times, we consent to a future of revengeful menace and relentless inhumanity. Two years ago, after watching the film 'The Interpreter' by Sydney Pollack, I felt the urge to write a piece on violence, gun use and authority being juxtaposed with the values of life, dignity, humanity and peace. The ease of taking a life by a single move- pulling the trigger- has always caused me immense horror, shattering the meaning of life, created and evolving through stages, time, experiences, dreams (and yet being disrupted so abruptly). I thus dedicate the following poem, inspired by this film, to all victims of violence happening next to us or to our brothers far in every corner of our planet. Violence is not a solution to injustice but love is definitely a step towards one.

An Antidote to Arrogance

Leaden extension of a vital organ,
in another life might be known as heart
in every beat a gunshot
rhythmical and wordless,
spreading on an  empty yet full of pain body.
Aiming at a vague future
of rumbling worlds,
where human voice
is a soundless toy,
abandoned in the forgotten playground of our lost childhood.
Every thing resembling an arena
and you an arrogant fighter
forgetting the meaning of soul.
Thence  flowers inside  the barrels,
posters on the walls I place,
and a banner of hope
waving up in the sky I will hold
to defeat you.
No blood, no deception, no lies,
just honesty, truth
in every language of the world,
in one flag,
P E A C E!
